Epiphone G1275 Twin Neck

This Epiphone G1275 Twin Neck is a recent acquisition. I have always been intrigued by these very odd-ball guitars. My preference would have been for the Gibson variant but given this was mainly a fun buy to add to the collection, the Epiphone was a fraction of the price. In various tests of twin-necks, the Epiphone always comes out near the top. Although, I have to say as the owner of both a Gibson and an Epi ES175, the former is the better instrument.

The Epiphone brand however, shares much with its parent company Gibson offering, the Gibson’s EDS-1275 which looks to all intents and purposes the same, using the SG design cues, it’s definitely of the SG family. The facility to switch between 6-string and 12-string configurations is an interesting piece of functionality. I’m led to believe that professionals find it quite easy to switch between necks. I’ll have to see if I can get to grips with the techniques required. A feature I find rather off putting however, is the prodigious weight; a seriously heavy instrument.

The double neck guitar was invented in the seventies with a number of double combinations being produced, including six-string and bass, two sixes with different tuning and of course the six and twelve. Will I get on with my double Epi, watch this space.
